How to Use a Reiki Box or Journal for Distance Healing and Intentions
As Reiki practitioners we often use symbols, crystals, or visualisations to focus and amplify our healing practice. One powerful tool we can add to our Reiki toolkit is the Reiki Box. A sacred container that channels healing energy toward intentions, people, or situations in need of Reiki. Think of it as a dedicated space that continues working for us once it’s prepared and activated.
What is a Reiki Box?
A Reiki box is typically a small wooden container, around 10 x 10 cm (approximately 4 x 4 inches). Inside the box, Reiki symbols are placed to create an energetic foundation. This allows us as practitioners to channel Reiki into the box, which then extends outward to the intentions or individuals written on slips of paper and placed inside.
It’s an effective way to send continuous distance healing, to support multiple clients or loved ones at once, or to hold space for personal goals and affirmations.
How to Create and Use a Reiki Box
You will need:
A wooden box (about 10 cm x 10 cm / 4 in x 4 in)
Three small slips of paper (cut and folded to fit inside the box)
One larger slip of paper for your petition or intention
Step 1: Prepare the Symbols
On each of the three slips of paper, draw one Reiki symbol:
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen (for distance healing and connection)
Sei He Ki (for emotional and mental balance)
Cho Ku Rei (for power and amplification)
Fold each paper and place them inside the box in this order:
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Sei He Ki
Cho Ku Rei
Step 2: Activate the Box
Close the box and visualize the three symbols. In your mind’s eye, draw each one while repeating its name three times aloud. As you do this, imagine the energy of the symbols filling the box.
Step 3: Channel Reiki
Give Reiki to the closed box for 5 minutes. This activates it as a sacred tool. To keep the energy flowing, channel Reiki to the box from time to time.
Step 4: Use the Box for Petitions or Distance Healing
For personal intentions: Write your petition or affirmation on a slip of paper and place it inside the box.
For clients or loved ones: Write down their name, surname, date of birth, and the situation or illness they need Reiki for. You may also include details such as star sign or place of residence if you feel it helps direct the energy.
Every time you wish to send Reiki, activate the box as described and channel energy to it. The Reiki will flow to the people or intentions inside. You can place as many petitions in the box as feels right.
Example Petitions for Your Reiki Box
Here are some sample wordings you can adapt to your needs:
For Healing
“I ask that Reiki flow to [Full Name, DOB], supporting their complete healing of [condition]. May they be restored to balance in body, mind, and spirit.”
“Reiki energy, please bring peace and comfort to [Name] during their recovery.”
For Abundance
“I welcome financial stability and the flow of abundance into my life. May Reiki guide me toward opportunities that align with my highest good.”
“With gratitude, I allow prosperity and joy to enter my home.”
For Relationships
“I ask that Reiki bring harmony, understanding, and healing to my relationship with [Name].”
“Reiki energy, please help me attract loving, supportive connections that nurture my soul.”
For Peace & Protection
“May Reiki surround my home with love, protection, and light, keeping all within safe and calm.”
“I ask Reiki to bring clarity, peace, and calm to my heart and mind.”
Don’t have a box? A hardcover notebook can serve the same purpose.
Reiki Journals as an Alternative
If you don’t have a box, a hardcover notebook can serve the same purpose. Choose one with around 50 pages. On the first three pages, draw the symbols in order:
First page: Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Second page: Sei He Ki
Third page: Cho Ku Rei
After drawing each symbol, channel Reiki into the book for 5 minutes. Then, begin writing your petitions. You may wish to organize them by categories (health, relationships, abundance, etc.) for clarity.
To seal the energy, draw the symbols again at the end of the book:
On the final page: Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
On the penultimate page: Sei He Ki
On the page before that: Cho Ku Rei
As with the box, send Reiki to the journal regularly to keep it active.
Why Use a Reiki Box or Journal?
Continuous healing: Once activated, the box or journal continues holding Reiki energy for your intentions.
Organization: It’s a simple way to keep track of multiple clients or personal goals.
Focus: The ritual of drawing symbols and activating the container deepens your connection to Reiki energy.
Both the Reiki box and journal are versatile, powerful tools for any Reiki practitioner. Whether you’re supporting clients at a distance or nurturing your own intentions, they offer a sacred space for energy to flow with focus and clarity.
